Two Josh's on the way out ???
Well the Super Bowl is over and for most NFL fans nothing super exciting happens until the free agency period begins and with a team with 21 UFA's lets be honest most of them will not return in 2014. All of us Panther fans are holding out hope that Gross & Hardy are to return and to a slightly lesser extent G. Gano & M. Mitchell as well. Granted we cannot keep everyone but some players still under contract maybe on their way out before free agency begins. Now nothing has been confirmed or officially announced however according to ESPN Panthers Blogger David Newton he believes that the team could release both CB's Josh Norman & Josh Thomas . I am torn regarding Norman he always seems poised to be a breakout player every year in the preseason but the minute he takes the field and takes on top tier NFL WR's from any team he looks lost & on big plays he simply fails especially at key times. We took a flier on the kid from Coastal Carolina but at this point he could and the word is COULD be out of the door. As for Thomas I have never been a fan, he is slightly above average in run support but not in coverage in fact he is downright offensive in coverage.
With C. Munnerlyn, D. Florence, Q. Mikell, M. Mitchell, all set to be free agents and C. Godfrey due a hefty pay raise, it is clear Gettleman and the Panthers secondary is going to look totally different in 2014. Gettleman said at the end of the year press conference with Rivera that he will be looking at the total body of work for each player and determining their worth regarding new contracts, but that could also go into players under current contracts, roster spots, etc... Norman has been in Rivera's doghouse for two seasons now and the Bills game seemed to be the last straw for Riverboat Ron simply put their could be more to this than just a rumor. Seems like it is a bad day to be a player named Josh in the Panther's secondary.
Stay tuned Panther Nation the fun has just begun this offseason .
