Update: Person Retraces His Cap Number to $21 million

Jeremy Brevard-US PRESSWIRE

As we all know, Carolina is currently cap burdened. David Newton from ESPN has reported earlier that Carolina could get up to 28 million under the cap. He's never cited his math, so people take that number with a grain of salt.

Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer is now reporting that Carolina currently stands at 29 million dollars under the projected 132 million dollar cap space after the recent restructures.

I don't know about everyone else, but I respect Person's word very closely. He's one of the few professional writers that covers our team and he does it tremendously. He's the one that made the connection last year that if any team is scared of taking Star Lotulelei, it won't be Carolina because Frank Alexander had a similar condition. He's been spot on with most of his reports, and he even predicted Ryan Kalil to be the next guy to restructure his contract.

So with David Newton AND Joseph Person reporting 28-29 million, I think it's safe to assume that we're sitting around that number. This is a gigantic relief knowing this because now Carolina may be forced to go after a top notch veteran Left Tackle with news of Gross' retirement.

If Charles Johnson and Greg Olsen also restructure, I think we're going to have quite a bit of breathing room to build a competitive roster.

Update: Person says we're not $28 million under, but $21 million under. Quotes "Shoot the messenger." Yeah. Yeah. Laugh all you want guys. Lol. But when David Newton and Person were saying $28, I thought they knew something we didn't so I was inclined to believe them. Oh well. I guess I learned my lesson at believing the internet.
