For the purposes of this draft I used Walterfoootball.com as a guide for who would and would't be available when the panthers are on the clock. I did not include any trades because I simply don't that that it is Gettleman's style. First round: Cyrus Kouandjio OT Alabama. At this point the top wide reciver prospects are off of the board. The top corner and safty prospects are off of the board as well. It seems as the Panthers get lucky because the best player available at this point happens to also fill a need as well. It has been well documented the need to protect Cam Newton and find the eventual replacement for Jordan Gross and Kouandjio can fill that need. He is a young player and has made strides at his time at Alabama. He still needs to work on his technique but displays good foot speed and enough sand in his pants to blast open holes for the leagues most expensive backfield. Second Round: Jared Abbredaris WR Wisconsin. I admit I would love the Panthers to get a big fast wide reciever that can high point the ball and dominate in the red zone. But watch some tape on Abbredaris. This kid always seems to be open. I belive that his stock will begin to soar once he runs at the combine (I think that he will run in the 4.4 range). He is a sure handed reciever that would give Newton someone who can consistantly move the chains and frequently make explosive game changing plays. Third Round: Billy Turner OT North Dakota State I really thought about going cornerback here. However I have recently watched some tape on this tackle prospect and I came away very impressed. He seems to have outstanding athleticism and has the frame to add some more bulk without losing speed. I know some are gun shy with the small school line prospects but this gives Gettleman the opportunity to have a very good line to protect Newton for a long time to come. This kid has the athleticism to become an NFL left tackle and a very good one. He will require some time to develop though. Some notes: I wouldn't be suprised if the panthers select a tight end in the first round if Amaro or Seferian-Jenkins is available. Cam seemed much more comfortable when he had Shocky and Olsen to throw to. This would also help us descise between run and pass and would make it harder for defenses to get a bead on us. .
