Fun Fact for the Divisional Round

After watching the great games this weekend I wanted to know how teams that won close wild-card weekend games (decided by 7 points or less) did in the divisional round. For my research I only went back to 2002 when the NFL put the current division structure in place.

Overall teams that win on Wild Card weekend are 16-28 the next week.

Teams that won by greater than 7 points are 13-13.

This means teams that won a close game on Wild Card weekend are 3-15 in the divisional round, that’s about a winning percentage of 17%.

The 3 wins were: Arizona over Carolina in 2008 (I still have nightmares), New York Jets over New England in 2010, and Green Bay over Atlanta also 2010
