Brad Nortman has won NFC Special Teams Player of the Month!

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

First fanpost, something I didn't see addressed.

Brad Nortman, Panthers punter, has won NFC Special Teams Player of the Month after an outstanding December, particularly in the rain-soaked game against the Saints. After that game, and Nortman not winning Special Teams POW, kicker Graham Gano took to Twitter and raged about the perceived snub.

Needless to say, he's happy now:

Here are Nortman's December stats: (From NFL.com)

Total Punts: 24

Total Gross Yards: 1,155

Gross Yards per Punt: 48.13

Total Net Yards: 1,054

Net Yards per Punt: 43.92

These are excellent numbers, and Nortman actually set a Panthers franchise record this season for average punt yardage. Note the small, 4 yard difference between gross and net yardage. This shows that Nortman hasn't been outkicking his coverage as strong-legged kickers are prone to doing, and the high number of punts inside the 20 (1/3 of them, and only 1 touchback) shows how effectively he can pin the opposition in their own territory. Nortman has been outstanding this year, as well as the rest of the Panthers' special teams corps. Congrats Brad!
