A week dominated by big talk and storylines was noticeably quiet when Cam Newton was asked to speak about Colin Kaepernick.
Newton spoke on NFL AM on Thursday morning and was relaxed when asked about Kaepernick mocking his touchdown celebration, rather than puffing his chest out and making brash comments. The Panthers quarterback made a joke about his feelings being hurt before deciding to be a little more serious.
"On a serious note, I think so highly of Colin and not only with him," Newton said. "A lot of times with sports people all get caught up in the competitiveness of it. I think so highly of not only Colin, but Andrew (Luck) -- I just had the opportunity to spend a couple days with him at the Pro Bowl. RG3, wish him a speedy recovery with that.
The week has been dominated by boastful talk and big language. Richard Sherman questioned Peyton Manning's arm strength, Kaepernick responded to Sherman, and Marshawn Lynch didn't talk to anyone. It's good to see Newton not get caught up in the meat grinder, saying things he'll later need to apologize for.
Now we can let this one die once and for all.
