One year ago it was unclear if Ron Rivera would make it through a year, 12 wins later it's time for an extension. His transition in 2013 was nothing short of amazing, and the front office agrees.
Rivera is currently working on an extension with general manager Dave Gettleman, according to a report from Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer. He is entering the fourth year of a four-year deal signed back in 2011, and there shouldn't be any hesitation in ensuring the Panthers have their head coach locked up long-term.
There's no doubt Rivera deserves an extension, but there's still work to be done in order to ensure 2013's success can become long-term sustainable success. There's a need to find more weapons for Cam Newton and revitalize the secondary but there's little question that Riverboat Ron is the right man for the job following this season.
Do you think it's a good idea to extend Rivera's deal now, or should the Panthers wait one more year?
