Pro Bowl draft 2014: Cam Newton to play second string

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

There's a good chance we wont see "Cam be Cam" in the Pro Bowl.

Cam Newton and Andrew Luck may have been selected first overall in subsequent years, but it was Newton who followed Luck on Thursday night.

Team Sanders selected Luck as the team's top quarterback, waiting until the second round to pick Newton as a backup. He'll work with receivers Antonio Brown and DeSean Jackson, which will be interesting to see how he operates with two deep threat receivers.

The distribution of Carolina players was split evenly across both teams. On paper it appears Rice finished with the better offense, but his defensive selections were extremely suspect.

It's really disappointing to see Rice's team not select Newton. Ron Rivera is coaching team Rice, and it would have been really fascinating to watch which offensive plays would be drawn up by Mike Shula with elite receivers. Instead Newton will be stuck on a Chuck Pagano-led team, known for a lack of offensive creativity and ample pocket passing. There's a good chance we wont get to "See Cam be Cam" in the Pro Bowl.

You can find the full Pro Bowl rosters here, but this is the distribution of Panthers across the sides.

Team Rice

Mike Tolbert, FB

Ryan Kalil, C

Jordan Gross, OT
