A group of 101 football writers and broadcasters have lodged their vote in the annual "101 Awards" and two members of the Carolina Panthers have been honored.
Head coach Ron Rivera will receiver NFC Coach of the Year for his role in bringing the Panthers to their first playoff berth in five years. On the surface it may seem like he was a shoe-in, but Bruce Arians of the Arizona Cardinals is getting a lot of buzz for his part in reshaping his team from a 5-11 unit in 2012 to a near-playoff berth at 10-6.
Andy Reid won AFC honors, and will be Rivera's stiffest competition when the major award is handed out later this year.
Luke Kuechly was awarded NFC Defensive Player of the year, edging out St. Louis Rams defensive end Robert Quinn in a shock award. It's not that Kuechly isn't deserving, because he was fantastic -- but it's hard to say he was a better defensive player than the league's best pass rusher who finished with 19.0 sacks in 2013.
Here is the full list of 101 Award winners:
NFC Defensive Player of the Year - Luke Kuechly, Carolina Panthers
