49ers vs. Panthers inactives: Steve Smith is playing

The Panthers will have No. 89 for their playoff game in Charlotte.

It was clear all week that Steve Smith wouldn't miss the Sunday playoff game between the 49ers and Panthers, and that came true on Sunday with the inactive report.

Smith will make the start, and life should be a little easier due to an injury to the 49ers. Cornerback Carlos Rodgers is inactive on Sunday due to a hamstring strain that occurred two weeks ago. His absence should make life a little easier for the passing offense.

There is one small blow to Carolina with the news Jonathan Stewart will not play, despite practicing this week. It's likely this is more of a long-term precaution than forcing him back into action too quickly. There's no question the offense is better with Stewart, but they are still effective.
