Carolina Panthers sign defensive tackle Sione Fua

Because why the heck not!?

The Carolina Panthers have signed free agent defensive tackle Sione Fua, placing right guard Garry Williams on injured reserve.

Fua was released by the Panthers in the last round of cuts after being drafted in 2011. In two years he totaled 22 tackles and one forced fumble, starting 12 games.

Conventional wisdom dictated that the Panthers would look to add an offensive lineman to replace Williams, but wisdom is utterly and hopelessly overrated. Fua played well throughout preseason and his addition could mean the Panthers will reshuffle their defensive line groupings in preparation for a guard signing.

Unless a spot is opened on the 53 man roster it's likely Travelle Wharton, Chris Scott, Amini Silatolu and Jeff Byers will represent the team's rotation at guard for the remainder of the season. Byers played very well in limited time against Seattle, while Silatolu was sidelined due to injury.

Most importantly it keeps my Fantasy Football team name intact. Long live 'Man vs. Fua'd'!
