This afternoon the Carolina Panthers announced that they have added seven players to their 2013 Practice Squad:
WR Brenton Bersin
WR James Shaw
RB Tauren Poole
LB Ben Jacobs
DT Casey Walker
DE Craig Roh
This is a solid group. Bersin and Shaw replace Lamont Bryant and Nelson Rosario as the team’s developmental receivers. Although they didn’t produce in the preseason, they both made some noise in training camp and hopefully they can take advantage of the extra year they’ve been given to further develop their skills.
Keeping Tauren Poole also makes a lot of sense, as he is a talented between-the-tackles runner who has flashed his potential both in the 2012 and 2013 preseason.
Robert Lester was one of the more popular UDFA additions, but he didn’t see too much time on the field in the preseason. He is a raw prospect who needs a lot of time, and he’ll get that on the Practice Squad.
Ben Jacobs, Craig Roh and Casey Walker should help keep the shelves stocked at the Panthers’ strongest positions – defensive line and linebacker.
NFL rules permit teams to carry a total of eight players on the Practice Squad, so for now there remains one unfilled spot on the Panthers’ Practice Squad.
