Another day of practice is in the books, so let's take a look back and see who stood out.
Several players absent from practice
Here's a full list of players who didn't practice today:
Thomas, Shaw, Pianalto, Kugbila, D. Edwards, Hixon, Byers, Beason, Stewart are not practicing today. Steve Smith has the day off.

FB Mike Tolbert is also among players not practicing today.

In case you're wondering why Tolbert wasn't at practice, Jonathan Jones has the scoop:
Mike Tolbert not at practice today rehabbing hamstring

Also, according to Ron Rivera, Kugbila is a week away from getting on the field:
Rivera says Kugbila still a week away from returning.

That's a little disheartening, but better to be safe than sorry.
Third Team DL vs. First Team OL
If you weren't worried about the offensive line, now would probably be a good time to start.
Panthers running third team D versus first team O in team drill. Armanti and LaFell are WRs.

Yikes.
Oh, and apparently the coaching staff likes to see the world burn:
First team D in vs third team O. Coaches looking to see what bubble player will separate himself
— Jonathan Jones (@jjones9) August 7, 2013
That's just not fair; not at all.
The read option is back, baby!
Finally, the Read Option...has come back...to CAROLINA!
Cam on designed run. Now zone read. Thereeeee it is
— Jonathan Jones (@jjones9) August 7, 2013
No word on how many times they ran the play, but they did it at least once. So there's that.
Kenjon Barner is fast
We already knew this, but yeah -- he's got wheels.
Good touch pass from DA to Barner. Guy has speed down the field #analysis #breaking
— Jonathan Jones (@jjones9) August 7, 2013
He also looks good as a receiver out of the backfield.
Anderson hits Barner in stride on a wheel route. Barner looks good catching out of the backfield.
— Joe Person (@josephperson) August 7, 2013
He may just end up being our secret weapon after all.
PUNTER UPDATE
I told y'all not to doubt the Nortmeister.
Backup P Jordan Gay just booted a long directional kick. Still is Nortman's job to lose.
— Joe Person (@josephperson) August 7, 2013
It's gonna take a lot more than one punt to dethrone the king, peasant.
Miscellaneous Notes
In an effort to quell any lingering emotions from yesterday's session, the coaches decided to run a non-padded practice today.
By no pads I mean they're just in shells and shorts today. Coaches hoping for less physicality as Bears game nears
— Jonathan Jones (@jjones9) August 7, 2013
They also decided not to run individual drills.
No 1-vs-1s today. Rivera didn't want repeat of yesterday's fight club.
— Joe Person (@josephperson) August 7, 2013
It's for the best, I suppose.
Brenton Bersin is still looking solid in camp. I won't be surprised if they stash him on the practice squad.
Bersin getting lot of targets in third team and he's making most of it. Not fastest guy but he has good hands. Practice squad spot possible
— Jonathan Jones (@jjones9) August 7, 2013
Apparently Dave Gettleman is already pondering life after football.

— Joe Person (@josephperson) August 7, 2013
It's a little strange to see the GM handling that duty, but hey, someone's gotta do it.
There weren't any great soundbites from today's practice, so Chase Blackburn wins today's quote of the day by default:
DE Craig Roh drops into coverage and drops sure interception after multiple bobbles. LB Chase Blackburn: "That's 4 drops so 40 pushups."

That's it for today's Twitter recap. We'll be back tomorrow with another Twitter recap after practice is over, so be ready for that. And as always, stay tuned to CSR for any breaking news from Panthers camp in Spartanburg.
