The Symbolic Release Of Jimmy Clausen: The Future is Now!

Earlier today final cuts were made, NFL dreams were ended or put on hold. However to myself and other Panther fans one cut of course stood out: Jimmy Clausen is no longer a Carolina Panther, it is quite crazy to think about. Whenever he was drafted in 2010 ESPN and others were labeling him the future of the Panthers franchise. Some Panther fans knew right from the gate he didn't feel like the future, others bought into the idea of him. They saw a player who along with Colt McCoy had a large drop on draft night, they saw a potential top 10 pick who we stole in the 2nd round. We all of course witnessed that dreadful rookie season, it wasn't exactly his fault that the team had such an awful year, there was the fact that John Fox would definitely be gone by the end of the year looming among others. That offseason everyone around the league predictied we would get someone like Patrick Peterson, Von Miller, Da'quan Bowers or maybe even Blaine Gabbert, until Ron Rivera decided to start his own legacy with his own QB and drafted Cam Newton. Everyone knows this worked out. After that Clausen didn't see a single regular season snap. Kind of unfair for a guy who had so much promise.

Now let's get to the part that shows that this is symbolic: this means to me that the past losing ways are now gone, this is the Gettleman era and it's now official with that move. All of us knew Clausen probably wasn't going to make the final cut. The past is gone Panther Nation, this is now the winning Panthers era, we have officially cut that last part of the past and it's time to move on.

Good Luck to Jimmy on his career elsewhere, I'm sure he will catch on somewhere and use some his potential. None of this was meant as disrespect.
