Panthers Start Making Cuts, Show Shift in Team Philosophy

The first cut announced today came as a shock to everyone. Drayton Florence, the wily vet who made an interception in the Baltimore pre-season game, was the fist cut leaked to the press. This is a shocking cut as the Panthers secondary is, well if not atrocious, then questionable. It may be another view of Dave Gettleman's philosophy on defense. Hawg Mawlies and a strong front seven are more important than the secondary. This could also just be a vote of confidence in Josh Norman and some younger, cheaper options. Cutting Florence saves the Panthers nearly a million dollars in cap. This could free up some cash to extend the Baddest of all the Hawg Mawlies, Greg "The Kraken" Hardy.

The next cut leaked was not a surprise, but also shows a shift in the Panthers philosophy. Jimmy Clausen was released after an abysmal career with the Carolina Panthers. While he has been a great teammate to Cam Newton, He was never going to see the field outside of the preseason. While this move leaves us with dead money (Clausen's salary was guaranteed), the move does leave us with some flexibility on the roster. This is also the first time in years where the team will not be keeping 3 Quarterbacks on the roster.

So what do you think Panther Fans? Is Gettleman making moves to help this team turn the corner?
