If the Panthers choose to leave Stewart on the PUP list he would miss the first six games of the season.
Panthers haven’t ruled out putting RB Jonathan Stewart on PUP list to start the regular season - The Washington Post
"At this point anything is an option," Rivera said following Tuesday’s practice. "What you’re hoping is you can get him on the football field and we’ll see once the doctor gets a chance to look at him."
With the season opener only a couple weeks away it makes the Panthers decision a hard one. If he can get back sooner than eight weeks, how much sooner? Is it worth the risk?
The Panthers seem to have the depth at RB to hold up without the speedy bruiser. I'm sure DeAngelo Williams would welcome the chance to get more carries and actually be a feature RB. He and Tolbert for that matter.
Hmmm... Stewart on the PUP would certainly make Williams a huge fantasy value based on where he is currently being drafted. (That's FFL draft tip is one the House, you're welcome). Williams will be a solid #2 RB with 20 touches a game.
I want to see Stewart on the field as much as any fan and a part of me wants to say this is just typical Stewart. Once the season starts he will be dressed and ready to truck somebody. But usually he is at least putting on the pads at this point. The doctor seems to be still in a 'wait and see' approach to his recovery, not a very encouraging sign in my view. I would expect a decision to made around the final cut down as the Panthers.
