Today we're voting on the 3 vs. 14 matchup -- Mike Wahle vs. Doug Evans.

Every tournament bracket has that one matchup that is a complete and total snoozefest. This is that matchup. However, that doesn't mean we can just skip over it without a vote.

Here's the case for Mike Wahle, courtesy of one of our Editors:

Mike Wahle was a big free agent acquisition out of Green Bay. In a busy offseason, fresh off a disappointing SB hangover in 2004, we signed him and CB Ken Lucas. (Sadly, these two are the last marquee free agents we've signed.) Wahle played what, eight seasons in GB?... So he was already 30+ when he came to Carolina. We payed him like an All-Pro, but he was never a top 5 guard in the league.

Wahle basically made the pro bowl after the 2005 season because we were a good team (made it to the NFC-CG), and because of his contract. It was also kind of unfortunate timing for Wahle, because during the 2005, 2006, and 2007 seasons, we were in between running backs, with an aging/hurt Deshaun Foster on his way out, and a young DeAngelo Williams on his way up.

In other words, he didn't have very much to block for. That aside, he was vastly overrated as a blocker in both phases. His prime was spent in GB, and by the time he got to Carolina (particularly his last two seasons) he was not the same player. The Panthers effectively rewarded him with the contract the Packers didn't want to give him... unfortunately it was the Packers who reaped the benefits on the field in the years leading up to his signing.

Admittedly, this one might be hard for some of you because you may not remember Doug Evans being on the team since he was part of the pre-Super Bowl era (he was a Panther from 1998-2001). In case you don't' remember him, here's a synopsis: he played cornerback, and according to our collective opinion, he was overrated as a Carolina Panther.

Yep, that's it.

Below you will find the case for him being overrated from a member of our Editorial Staff:

Doug Evans was a ball hawk. He also got beat like a drum. It's a good thing we had solid safety play and a hell of a pass rush when he was here, because he was a liability in coverage. He disguised his weaknesses, or allowed people to overlook said weaknesses because he would pick off the occasional pass, meaning, unlike many of your current players -- he would actually catch a football when it hit him in his hands.

So this somewhat undue praise for his interceptions mixed with the lack of accountability it created, combined with the fact that he had what was developing into one of the top ten defensive lines in the history of the league in front of him, makes him overrated.

So there you have it folks. Who do you think is more overrated, Mike Wahle or Doug Evans? Vote in the poll below, and feel free to discuss your vote in the comments.

Please remember that voting will close in 48 hours.
