While watching Sportscenter this morning, I couldn't help but wait for a piece which ESPN alluded to at the beginning of the hour. The piece turned out to be Newton's ranking in Jaw's QB Countdown. I was confused and actually angered to find out where Jaws had ranked Newton 18th on his list of best NFL quarterbacks. Now I know we can't take all these "expert" rankings too seriously, but this one upset me. The reason Jaworski ranked Cam at 18 was "the lack of consistency in the passing game". This really got to me. How can you say that Cam's game receded because he had 5 less picks and a better passer rating in his sophomore year? If anything I'd rank Cam higher because of the signs of improvement he displayed in the last half of the year. In the last 7 games of last year, Cam threw just 2 interceptions. I don't know if this is more of the media scrutiny or what, but I strongly disagree. This ranking means that Jaws has players like Jay Cutler, Phillip Rivers and Matt Schaub ranked ahead of Newton, all of whom are well known for inconsistency in the passing game. I'm interested to see where Jaws ranks players like Luck and RGIII. The fact is that CAM WAS A MORE EFFICIENT PASSER THAN LUCK last year. I try to look at this without the mindset of Panthers fan and still am astounded by the rankings. Personally I agree with NFL.com's rankings from this off-season:
What are your thoughts? Do you think this is more media scrutiny? Where would you rank Cam in terms of QBs?
