Panthers Training Camp Day 2 Notes

Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

It was an enjoyable first full practice at Panthers training camp today. Overall we saw a lot to be positive along with a little to be concerned about but it’s early yet.

I’m going to spare you the drawn out intro and just detail me notes as I wrote them down. As it turned out I didn’t take as many notes as usual as we had such a good time talking and watching the action on the field. So here we go.

· First on the field was CB DJ Moore

· Smitty had a nice one-handed catch on rebound in a passing drill

· Hixon demonstrated a very nice short hook route

· In the first 11 on 11 drill the starting CBs were Drayton Florence and Captain Munnerlyn; at safety was DJ Campbell and Charles Godfrey; Josh Norman came in for the nickel formation and played the outside with Munnerlyn moving to the middle

· Chase Blackburn played SLB with Beason out

· Clausen hit Rosario 10 yds downfield with a nice pass

· Armanti Edwards plucked the ball away from and INT inclined Josh Norman on an out pattern to the left

· Ted Ginn caught a nice pass from Clausen down the middle

· Melvin White got an INT on a ball overthrown by DA; he then proceeded to run it down the down the field for the TD though the play was way over

· Newton hit Olsen on the corner route they has gotten real good at executing

· Newton overthrew Pilares though he was open

· Frank Alexander beat Hartsock to the QB on a 11 on 11 play

· Clausen threads the needle 20 yds downfield to #83

· End around to LaFell has a nice wrinkle to it

· Pilares picks up a nice block on a blitzing LB allowing Newton to get a pass off

· AJ Klein spent a lot of time with Thomas Davis on the sideline getting his advice we would assume

· Lotulelei and Short gave each other dap every time one or other came off the field

· Bersin made a nice catch on a crossing route

· FB Zordich has a sweet Mohawk

· #80 had a catch from Clausen

· Colby Cameron threw two straight wobbly passes; Clausen looks safe at #3, more like Derek Anderson might need to look over his shoulder as Clausen threw the ball very well

· LT Nate Chandler got abused on two straight plays, getting knocked back and allowing the pass rusher to disrupt the throw

· Short makes a nice first step to get to the QB (all touch, no tackling)

· #40 intercepts Cameron on a pass he should not have thrown

· After practice Newton continued to run some type of running and drop to the ground drill up and down the field. He then came over and signed autographs all around the stadium
