Hey CSR! Right now I have strep throat, feel awful, but have alot of time on my hands so I'm going to write a little rant on what I think is a key missing link for the Panthers that could be crucial in the upcoming season.
Unless Edmund Kugbila is a beast and is NFL-ready coming from Valdosta State (possible but unlikely), Geoff Hangartner looks to be the starter at RG. And if you've watched Panthers games the last few years, this is not good. It's difficult for Cam to make plays in the pocket when the DT has pushed Hangartner into the backfield, and it's difficult to have a strong run game when the RG can't get a push or can't pull. This is not an article only full of hate for Hangartner. I respect him for his versatility, and he is a solid depth player, but he should not be the starter.
As of right now the Panthers have around $10 million in free cap space. While the Panther way is to grow your own through the draft and we have to pay Cam soon, I think the Panthers should bring in a free agent guard. Though I don't know that much about Brandon Moore except that he started a lot of games and is 33, I think if we could sign him to a 1-2 year deal it would put the Panthers in good position to dominate the trenches this year (ie get a lot of wins).
What do you guys think?
