Carolina Panthers Sign UDFA WR Dale Moss, Waive WR R.J Webb

USA TODAY Sports

The Panthers add an intriguing wide receiver prospect to the roster, and part ways with another.

According to the Charlotte Observer, the Carolina Panthers have signed UDFA wide receiver Dale Moss, and have waived injured wide receiver R.J Webb.

The Panthers waive/injured wide receiver R.J. Webb and signed WR Dale Moss in his place, according to the league's official transaction page.

R.J Webb tore his right ACL last Thursday at Panthers minicamp in Charlotte. It marks the third time he’s torn his ACL – he previously tore both his ACL’s when he played at Furman University, so Webb will definitely face an uphill climb if he ever wants to play in the NFL again.

To replace the injured receiver, the Panthers have signed former UDFA wide receiver Dale Moss, from South Dakota State University.

Moss was signed as a free agent following the 2012 Draft by the Green Bay Packers, but he was later released. The Bears signed him earlier this offseason, but released him after OTA’s.

Moss is a bigger receiver, at 6-3 and weighing 213 pounds. Moss played both basketball and football in college, so the athleticism is definitely there. His Pro Day numbers back this up – he ran a 4.51 40-yard dash, and a 41.5 inch vertical leap. He also had an incredible 6.32 3-cone drill, which would have been the fastest at the Combine had he been invited. Moss had 61 receptions for 949 yards and six touchdowns his final year in college.

Here's some footage from his Pro Day:

Here are his college highlights:

Moss will most likely be a camp body for the Panthers. His intriguing athleticism means that he could potentially win a spot on the Practice Squad if he performs well at camp - just like Lamont Bryant and Nelson Rosario last season.

Our very own Derek Leazer also wrote a post on him last year - check it out!
