The obvious player is DE Charles Johnson who logged a career best 12.5 sacks in 2012. The addition of DTs Star Lotulelei and Kawann Short up front and the emergence of DE Greg Hardy on the other side of the line would suggest Johnson should be able to increase that season total. Entering his 7th season the 26 year old is hitting his prime. Add in the fact he has proven very durable and I can see 16 sacks or more for the guy we call 'Big Money'. It might be time to put his name in the record book.
Of course the aforementioned Greg Hardy might have something to say about that. Hardy just might benefit from the two new DTs than Johnson seeing as he is surely to be one on one with whoever is blocking the left edge. The Panthers seem to be planning for this by allowing Hardy to lose about 15 lbs so he is more effective rushing off the edge. Certainly every OC on the Panthers schedule right now is more worried about Johnson than Hardy and rightfully so. Most will assume their LT capable of neutralizing Hardy. That will play into the Kraken's new found speed.
Is there a third player that could challenge for the Panther sack record? I'm not willing to go there as few other players will get as many snaps needed to break the record. Outside of a significant change in the scheme that is.
