If you remember last week, I wrote an article saying the NFL and NFLPA were considering moving the date of the NFL Draft to sometime in May.
Well, as it turns out they did. The NFL announced today in a tweet (that links to a Facebook post) that the 2014 NFL Draft will be held May 8-10 at Radio City Music Hall in New York.
If you're a draft junkie, I'm sorry that you have to wait two extra weeks to get your draft fix. If you're one of those people who think the draft is too early, well then I guess you're in luck. If you're apathetic to the whole thing, then carry on - there's nothing to see here.
One interesting thing about the league pushing back Draft Weekend is that the rest of the league year will remain unchanged, according to this tweet from Matt Maiocco, who covers the 49ers for CSN:
2014 NFL calendar: Scouting combine, Feb. 18-25; Free agency/new league year begins March 11; NFL draft will be held May 8-10.— Matt Maiocco (@MaioccoCSN) May 28, 2013
I don't really have much of an issue with the league moving the date of the draft other than enduring the two extra weeks of fans
screaming insults at one another debating draft prospects, but I really don't understand this decision if they're not going to change anything else in the league year.
On the bright side, at least there will be less time between the draft and the start of offseason workouts now. That's a good thing, I guess.
