Panthers GM Dave Gettleman is in the process of getting all the Panthers rookies under contract, and he made an important move towards achieving that goal today by inking first round draft pick Star Lotulelei to a contract.
The terms are currently undisclosed, but according to a tweet from Rep 1 Sports (Star's agency), the deal is done:
Star Lotulelei and the Carolina Panthers have agreed to terms. Congrats Star!— Rep 1 Sports (@Rep1Sports) May 22, 2013
While we don't know the exact terms of the deal, we do know that the NFL operates under a rookie pay scale per the CBA, so there wasn't a lot of room for negotiating between both parties. The benefit of this is we didn't have to worry about any potential training camp holdouts like we did in years past.
As of right now, the only rookies left to sign their contracts are 5th round pick AJ Klein and 6th round pick Kenjon Barner, but those two deals should be signed, sealed, and delivered shortly.
Stay tuned to CSR for updates to this story, as we will provide the details of the contract as soon as they are available.
