Amazingly, there is still a long list of talented veteran free agents who still have some gas in the tank, and Charles Woodson is certainly on that list. But the former seven time All-Pro cornerback has received little interest until now.
Woodson is reportedly meeting today and tomorrow with the Broncos, and according to his agent, they weren't the only team who recently inquired about his services. Both the Panthers and Raiders were on that short list looking to bring him in for a visit.
This, along with James Dator's article earlier today, should dispel any notion that the Panthers are comfortable with where they stand in the secondary. A move like this makes perfect sense to me. Even at 36(37 in October), Woodson would be an upgrade over anyone in our defensive backfield. Wstrong safety, where he started in his final season with the Packers. Not only would his versatility improve our secondary, but he would also be a welcome veteran voice and presence on a roster that is very young in the defensive backfield.
Unfortunately, the Panthers may have waited too long to share their interest. I actually don't expect him to leave Denver without signing a contract. Although Woodson stated that he wasn't opposed to signing with a team who is rebuilding, it makes much more sense to explore the possibility of signing with a bona fide Super Bowl contender before moving on to the likes of Carolina and Oakland.
If Woodson were to somehow leave Denver without a contract, would you be on board with signing him?
