2013 NFL Offseason: Panthers sign LB Ben Jacobs

Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

The Panthers have added another potential camp body to the roster at the linebacker position.

According to a tweet from Aaron Wilson, the Panthers have signed another linebacker to replace recently waived UDFA Damario Jeffery.

Here's Wilson's tweet covering the breaking news:

Now, before you jump out of your chair with excitement, keep in mind that Jacobs probably won't even make the team. We don't have a lot of info on Jacobs other than this tidbit from Rotoworld:

A 2011 undrafted free agent, Jacobs appeared in five games for the Browns as a rookie before a concussion ended his season. He was out of the league in 2012. He's just a camp body for the Panthers.

Yep, that's all we've got. In his five games with Cleveland, he failed to record a stat (according to Rotoworld). There are no highlights of him, and there's no video for us to analyze. Basically, we replaced one camp body LB with another one. No one knows at this point why the Panthers made the decision to shuffle linebackers, but perhaps they see something in Jacobs that they didn't see in Jeffery.

Or, maybe they just felt like playing musical linebackers. Only time will tell.
