As the pre-draft process continues the Carolina Panthers are meeting with LSU outside linebacker Barkevious Mingo, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. Seen as a 3-4 rush linebacker or possibly playing the leo linebacker role in a 4-3, it's hard to see where he fits in Carolina's plans.
The final three weeks are when you see pre-draft visits ramp up, and teams finalize their boards. Prospects who visit teams during this time fall into one of two camps -- those the team are really interested in, and those where the organization are doing their due diligence checks, ensuring no stone is left unturned.
It's hard to know where Mingo falls into the Panthers plans. Dave Gettleman likes his pass rushers, but they haven't used a leo linebacker before. Furthermore, it seems like a waste to take a 3-4 pass rusher on a team who doesn't use enough 3-4 looks. Time will tell, but there's a chance (albeit slim) that we have a draft-day shocker.
