In a tweet sent to the CSR Twitter account (Have you followed us yet? If not, you still have time!), Jason from Over the Cap linked a chart illustrating how much cap space the Panthers will have to dedicate to the 2013 draft class.
If you're one of those who has lost sleep at night worrying about how much cap space the Panthers are going to need to sign their rookies, then fear not. Based on the information he provided, the Panthers don't need that much cap space.
According to his chart, Carolina will have to commit $3,991,540 towards the 2013 salary cap for all five draft picks. (Of course, this is assuming they don't make any trades, so take this information with a grain of salt.)
Now that we know a ballpark figure of how much the Panthers need to have in reserve to keep their draft class, we can discuss any potential free agent moves the team may consider. The Falcons are planning to release veteran RT Tyson Clabo today for cap reasons, so if Gettleman felt inclined he could definitely make a phone call and try to add a veteran tackle on the cheap.
Or, Gettleman can hang on to the extra funds and use it to help get under the cap in 2014. Regardless of what he decides to do, at least he now has options - something he didn't really have when he took the job a few months ago.
