2013 NFL draft: Panthers work out D.J. Fluker and Tyrone Goard

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

The Carolina Panthers are increasing their pre-draft visits with just over three weeks to go.

Adding to the list of official visits, the Carolina Panthers have met with Alabama right tackle D.J. Fluker, and Eastern Kentucky wide receiver Tyrone Goard. Fluker is a possibility in either the first or second round, while Goard is a late-round option at WR -- but boasts some eye-popping measurables.

Fluker is the second offensive linemen the Panthers have met with thus far. The team worked out Oklahoma left tackle Lane Johnson in early March. It appears the desire to get a tackle is far greater than guard, as there's still no evidence the organization have any interest in the first round interior linemen. Neither Chance Warmack, nor Jonathan Cooper have been linked to the team yet -- and that's telling in terms of their first round plans.

While Fluker played right tackle at Alabama, there's a very good chance he kicks inside at the next level. Currently he's a bruising run blocker, but struggles against faster pass rushers -- which is what he'll see at the NFL level. Should he last until the second round it wouldn't be surprising to see Carolina take him with the intention of kicking him in to right guard, which is probably a better position for him in the NFL.

Tyrone Goard is fascinating for one main reason: size. Measuring 6-7 (according to NFL.com) and 6-4 (according to EKU's website), 205-lbs he's the definition of a 'beanpole', but he's a natural end zone threat with that much height. He finished his senior season with 900 yards receiving, and eight touchdowns.

The team who has shown the most interest in Goard thus far: The San Francisco 49ers, and that's not bad company to have. As a likely 7th round pick, or priority free agent it's all upside with Goard. He has to add to his frame, because as it stands he's only 15-lbs heavier than Captain Munnerlyn.
