After the Panthers had made all their picks, I asked fans to give them a grade. Listed below is a selection of the resposnes.
First, the positives:
@catscratchreadrA-, We made the absolutely best 1st pick we could, go great value in RD2, and added depth in 4/5 plus a playmaker in 6.— Erik Sommers (@Tater596) April 27, 2013
@catscratchreadr A-— Linda Edmondson (@lde857) April 27, 2013
@catscratchreadr A-. Added quality depth at key positions. Really like barner.— Danny Carter (@pantherdan344) April 27, 2013
@catscratchreadr A, I think we addressed our most obvious need with our first two picks and gained depth at vital positions afterward— Jake Wexler (@CarPanthers24_7) April 27, 2013
@catscratchreadrB +— Dar-nezzy (@drnell45) April 27, 2013
And now, a few that weren't as positive:
@catscratchreadr a B- High C+. Addressed some needs but had some head scratchers but all these picks will help for the future.— Deebo (@ebo_entsuah3) April 27, 2013
@catscratchreadr B. 1,2,and 5th pick were great. 4th- extremely disappointed. If I'm wrong ill own up to it.— Jim Todd (@Jtodd121) April 27, 2013
And then there's the negative:
I don't agree with the F grade, so I responded with the following:
@danism28 There's no way this is an F draft. He got tremendous value, fixed biggest weakness (run D), got an OG, and solidified depth at LB.— CSR (@CatScratchReadr) April 27, 2013
Please note: we only had one reply that graded the draft lower than a C. That's why there's only one tweet in the negative section. I wasn't singling danism28 out for having a negative opinion (which is well within his right to have), it's just that there weren't any similar responses to add to this post. (Please don't hate me Dan.)
I was also curious to see which pick was the favorite (aside from Star, obviously) and the least favorite, so I asked everyone to give their thoughts. Like always, people were more than happy to respond:
@catscratchreadr Favorite was Short. Least was Kugbila, only b/c of where they drafted him. I feel like he’d be there in 5th.— John Boatwright (@winkbox) April 29, 2013
@catscratchreadr Kugbila (hope that's spelt right) we needed an extra speed bump to protect Cam!— Andy Campbell (@A_Campbell_UK) April 29, 2013
@catscratchreadr suprisingly Barner. Watched him play college ball and he has a knack for big plays. 3rd-4th round ability in the 6th.— Corey Champion (@ClemsonChampion) April 29, 2013
@catscratchreadr Kenjon Barner. He's gonna be something else. You watch. And I hated the seventh round pick. I never liked Murphy.— MF (@MF_Panther) April 29, 2013
@catscratchreadr 6th round.It showed a foresight that was seemingly lacking during previous seasons.— Adam S (@VagusNC) April 29, 2013
So, it appears that the clubhouse favorite was Barner, which was surprising considering he's a running back coming into an already crowded backfield.
I found it interesting that Kubbila was listed as both a favorite and least favorite. One of the two camps will be right, and hopefully it's the favorite camp, because a solid RG is just what the OL needs to compete in 2013.
