Draft - Offense Vs. Defense

The draft this year is very important for the Panthers, considering our cap situation. I see alot of posts on this website wanting the selection of offensive players in the draft. I have more of a defensive view on the draft. I thought it would be good to have a discussion about it. Offense- Some people on this website want to go early and strong towards offensive players for depth, and building for the future. I could be on board with taking an elite receiver in the 1st round (Hopkins), and maybe a tackle or guard in the later rounds. I see the need for additional player for offense for the future, to protect Cam, and give him more weapons. But we scored enough points last year to win games, and the defense fell short. I guess I do not share the enthusiasm for taking alot of offensive players in the early rounds. Defense- As it is well documented from last season, we have alot of holes in our potentially good defense. I think defense wins ball games. It really doesn't matter if you build an excellent offense that scores 84 points a game, if the other team scores 91. In other words, if you had a boat with several holes in the bottom. Would you first put wood preservative on the existing boards; or would you first plug up the holes where the water is rushing in? I think the most pressing matter is to fill the holes in the defense, such as defensive tackle, safety, and corner. This is my opinion. I want to know yours. Who knows, maybe you "O" men can sway me to your way of thinking.
