Jaxon's Final Mock to #14 Overall

Rob Carr

You might recall I have posed two other mock drafts, the most recent being a post free agency mock. I'm going to give it one more crack now that free agency has played out and the draft is upon us.

Before I get into my final mock to #14 though I want to announce we do have two more mock draft contests in store on CSR before the real draft kicks off. The first contest, which will kick off by Thursday will allow members to enter their Panthers mock draft picks and then vote on the ones they like the most. The mock draft gets the most Recs is the winner. There are rules though...more details to come.

The second contest is our traditional Pick the Panthers Draft Contest which will kick off by Friday. Panthers FTW was our winner last year. Both contests will end when the actual draft kicks off next Thursday.

So with that here is my final mock to #14 with comments and then who I'm thinking the Panthers will draft at #14 based on the 13 picks beforehand. I am including one trade that seems very obvious to me but I realize that more than one trade in the top 10 is very likely:

Pick

Team

Player

Comment

1

Chiefs

LT Luke Joeckel

Try as they might the Chiefs will be stuck picking at #1 and Joeckel is at the top of their board. They have no reason to hide their interest but will anyway in a last ditch hope of trading back.

2

Jaguars

DE Dion Jordan

I see the Jags preferring to wait until the 2nd round to pick a QB to compete with Blaine Gabbert. Instead they take the athletic pass rusher.

3

Raiders

DT Star Lotulelei

Since the Raiders think they have the QB position solved by trading for a guy that got beat out by a rookie they instead address their biggest need and by accident the BPA on the board

4

Eagles

QB Geno Smith

With Michael Vick on the last year of his contract the Eagles can sit Smith for a season and slide in a QB similar to Vick but more accurate in the passing game. It just makes too much sense with Chip Kelly needing an athletic QB to run his offense long term.

5

Dolphins (via Trade with Lions)

OT Eric Fisher

The Dolphins need an OT in the worst way and have the ammunition to move up.

6

Browns

CB Dee Milliner

BPA meets need for the Browns who have no one across from Joe Hayden

7

Cardinals

LT Lane Johnson

LT is a huge need though Johnson might be a little risky drafting him this early.

8

Bills

LB Jarvis Jones

I'm going to estimate most teams are unconcerned with Jones medical report and the Bills need a LB like Jones in a bad way.

9

Jets

DE Barkevious Mingo

Rex is said to be ‘smitten' by Mingo and the pressure he can bring from the edge.

10

Titans

OT DJ Fluker

The Titans love the thought of the big road grader to plow holes for Chris Johnson

11

Chargers

DT Shariff Floyd

The Chargers need a NG and Floyd is BPA at this point.

12

Lions

FS Kenny Vacarro

The Lions need all kinds of help in the secondary and Vaccaro is the kind of playmaker they should covet.

13

Buccaneers

TE Tyler Eifert

A CB may seem the obvious need but instead I think the Bucs covet a TE than can give Freeman another red zone target

14

Panthers

WR Deandre Hopkins

It's a WR but not the one we have been focused on. The Panthers add a skill player to give Newton another weapon in the passing game.
