If the 2013 season results in missing the playoffs...

We all but know that Rivera will not be the coach for the 2014 season. I would absolutely hate it if we missed the playoffs, but with the improvement in the NFC this past offseason it is going to be as hard as ever to reach the playoffs. So with all of this draft hoopla going on I'd like to touch on potential coaching replacements for Rivera if our season results in another missed post-season. Three names stick out to me, one being a common rumor over the past few seasons. The first potential candidate is Bill Cowher. Cowher had a successful tenure in Pittsburgh and has a mean streak as a coach which I personally really admire. He knows how to get his players fired up before the game and keeps his intensity throughout the game as well. We all know that Rivera tends be a lame duck on the sideline. I think Cowher is my #1 candidate right now but this other guy would not be a bad consolation prize. Mike Zimmer has been a very successful DC in Cincinnati since 2008. In his playing days he started out as a QB but then moved to a linebacker so we would not miss a beat with this guy on knowing how to help with Cam and Kuechly. Rivera obviously knows what he is doing with linebackers because of his past so we would just keep skipping along with this as our new hire. The Browns interviewed Zimmer this offseason for their head coaching job but went with Chudzinski (thank you) instead. He won assistant coach of the year in 2009 so he would be a great option for our team since he has led the Bengals to a top 10 defense in 3 of the last 4 seasons (09, 11, and 12). The third option is Lovie Smith. Smith had a successful coaching career in Chicago. Winning coach of the year in just his second season in 2005 as a head coach and taking them to the Superbowl (with Rex Grossman as his QB) the following season. His teams struggled after that until Cutler came in and took over at QB but they had been good the last few years he was there. Smith would come in here with a good team overall with a franchise QB and a good defense (barring injuries again of course). If Cowher and Zimmer are gone this would be my third option. Beyond these three I am torn on who I would pick so throw your opinions out there.
