The Panthers have decided to have yet another competition at the kicker position during training camp as they have signed veteran placekicker - and former Panther - Olindo Mare to a 3 year, $11M contract.
Mare, who many fans blame for the 2011 season going down the tubes, is eager to prove his detractors wrong by showing that he can make field goals from more than 25 yards.
Mare spoke to the media about re-signing with the Panthers:
I'm just excited to get back on the field and show the fans that I still have something left in the leg. I really think that I got a little bit of a raw deal the last time I was here, and I'm looking forward to proving that the Panthers shouldn't have cut me in the first place.
Head Coach Ron Rivera was asked to comment on the signing, but curtly denied, saying "you'll have to speak to the personnel department about that".
