Every Panthers fan should remember Ramses Barden. The Giants receiver, now a free agent, torched our secondary for 138 yards on Thursday Night Football last season. He is big (6' 6" 225), he is drastically undervalued in an offense that includes receivers Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks, and recently said in an interview, "it is probably best for me to start looking other places, for a new system, for a refreshed sense of welcoming." With the Giants having to worry about resigning both Cruz and Nicks in the near future, it appears that resigning Barden is not a priority and the organization agrees that it would be best for him to look elsewhere.
To me, the Panthers looking to acquire Barden is a no-brainer. He is a big, young, physical receiver, a red zone target, has a connection to Gettleman, and will most likely be relatively cheap. I feel he is a great complement to Steve, granted he can produce in our offense. If we did sign Barden, it would also allow for us to address other positions, which I feel are more pertinent, in the draft.
I tweeted at Joe Person several days ago asking if he thought acquiring Barden would be a smart play for the Panthers, and then read his article in the Observer yesterday. It seems he agrees with me; how do y'all think the Panthers should address the receiver position?
