Panthers Work Out WV WR's Austin & Bailey

I think I'm seeing trend in the positions the Panthers seem focused on. They also might be eyeing a late round LB.

The workout was held today per the WV football site:

WVU Football: Stedman Bailey's Pro Day Performance Elevates His Draft Stock - Hail WV - A West Virginia Mountaineers Fan Site - News, Blogs, Opinion and more.
What should have been obvious on film is only now being recognized by scouts. Bailey has NFL caliber hands, decent speed, and an incredible knack for finding the ball in traffic. His talents were more than deserving of his Biletnikoff award nomination, a fact that many NFL scouts have seemed to overlook until they saw him work out in person.

As NFL Network’s Mike Mayock said of Bailey: "What I see is an instinctive, smart receiver that catches the ball; he’s a natural hands catcher," and "I’d be surprised if he gets out of the third round," Mayock on Bailey.

Both Bailey and Austin are scheduled to work out with the Carolina Panthers this coming week, the first of many private workouts for the Mountaineer wide-outs.

Bailey was very productive in his WV career. In spite of Tavon Austin getting all the press Bailey scored 41 TDs in his career. He might be a target in the 2nd round for us.

The Panthers have also apparently scheduled a private workout with a Florida LB coming off of injury:

NFL descends upon Gainesville for Florida Gators' Pro Day |

LB Jalani Jenkins may have had the most to prove Tuesday. He left school after his junior season despite missing the Sugar Bowl because of a broken bone in his right foot, an injury that left him limited at the combine.

"I think today was just to prove that I'm still able to run around," said Jenkins, who added he has private workouts scheduled with the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins and Carolina Panthers. "A lot of people were concerned about how he's going to come back after the injury, but I think that's one of the things I proved today. Everything we did out here was still football related, still the same thing I did when I was playing at Florida."

The Panthers might use a late round pick on a guy like Jenkins who represents a lot of upside though I admit our recent track record with draftees coming off injury is not very good (See Brandon Hogan). With the release of James Anderson and the departure of Jason Phillips the Panthers need LB depth.
