Why so serious? - Rob Carr
Back for another day of signings!
The second full day of free agency should be the day of the cornerbacks. With all the big names signing around the league, the CB spot has been under-represented so far, leading to a situation where we could see some of the heavy hitters find teams today.
Tampa Bay are still looking to trade for Darrelle Revis, but it seems they're balking at the idea of giving up the 13th overall pick. It would be foolish to give up a top-15 pick for a cornerback who may not be returning to full health -- but since they're a division rival... DO IT!
Expect another quiet day out of the Carolina Panthers. They made huge moves yesterday to retain backup QB Derek Anderson and add CB Drayton Florence (wait, sarcasm font doesn't work up here? rats). In all seriousness, they were solid roster moves that helps keep continuity -- for better or for worse. The biggest move to hope for is retaining Dwan Edwards, but it remains to be seen whether the Panthers can afford him.
Contracts are beyond stupid this year. Mediocre players are getting $3-4 million per year, and the Panthers can't afford anything more than a one-year deal for Edwards. Ultimately the grass may be too green somewhere else. It also remains to be seen what's happening with Captain Munnerlyn. Perhaps a run on cornerbacks will spur something on that front.
