Jake Delhomme was voted as the runner up as the best Carolina Panthers of all time in a fan vote here on CSR, back in 2011. Ultimately he lost out to Steve Smith, but now he has a chance to be on the cover of the 25th anniversary of the Madden video game.
The road is near-impossible. In the vote held on ESPN.com, Delhomme is matched up against Joe Montana in the first round. Whether you play Madden each year or not, it's a major event each season, and one where Cam Newton narrowly missed out on making the cover in 2012 -- where he lost in the finale to Detroit Lions' wide receiver Calvin Johnson.
Neither Johnson, nor Newton have a chance this season, making Delhomme the 'classic' representative for the Panthers. The rest of the NFC South are hosted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers boasting Doug Martin and Derrick Brooks, the Atlanta Falcons have Deion Sanders and Julio Jones, while the New Orleans Saints have Jimmy Graham and (inexplicably) Deuce McAllister.
Each team has a modern representative, and a past player. For the Panthers, Luke Kuechly represents the organization as a number twelve seed, matched up against Ray Rice in the first round.
Realistically neither Delhomme or Kuechly stand a chance, but it would be hilarious to see fans get Jake voted in over Montana, much like Cleveland Browns' fans rallied around Peyton Hillis to put him on the cover of Madden '11.
