Hey Panthers fans, just stopping by to ask a little help. I'm a member of Dawgs by Nature, the Cleveland Browns SBN site, and just signed up to cover the Panthers in our community mock draft. The mock is going to go 2 rounds and doesn't start until after the Combine, but I figured I'd get a little head start by asking you guys.
I currently reside in SC, so by nature of geographic location and a former Panther myself, (Licking Valley Panthers that is)I am a little bit of a "closet" Panthers fan (don't tell anyone). The Browns will always be my team, but I have a little bit of a soft spot for your team and cheer you guys on just as long as you're not playing the Browns.
I am aware that the Panthers traditionally (or atleast claim to) take the BPA approach, but I'm a firm believer that "team needs" play a huge role in where teams put players on their big board. I have the Panthers current needs, in order, as DT, WR, CB, OG, OLB. My questions are is this accurate in your guys opinion or do you have a different list.
Also, I read one of the posts on your site about a b/u QB and just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. First of all, I really hope DA doesn't come back to Cleveland and you guys keep him. But if it does happen, I have a few suggestions for you guys. Someone mentioned Browns 4th string QB Josh Johnson and while that may be alright for a 3rd stringer for you guys I don't think he would be able to be your b/u. If you want to take one of our QBs it should be Thad Lewis. He played pretty well against Pit in our season finale last year and I think he could be a really good number 2 for you guys. He isn't a free agent, but I think a trade could be worked out. I'm working on a package player deal that would make sense and will post as a comment if I come up with one. Also, I know you guys are low on draft picks and though I don't really agree with drafting a b/u QB, you guys should take a look at Marquis Gray from Minnesota. There is a lot of question as to where he'll play in the NFL and I've heard rumors about him being a TE, but this is what I think makes him a really good option for you guys. The dude is 6'5", 250 lbs, and runs a 4.5 or 4.6. He played QB and WR in for the Gophers. You guys could use him at TE and WR and if need be he could probably play QB for you in a pinch.
Alright, that's all I got. I look forward to your opinions and thank you in advance for your help.
