Newest Panther: WR James Shaw

The Panthers today signed James Shaw, a UDFA out of Jacksonville State in Alabama. Let's take take a look at this WR.

James Napoleon Shaw stand 5'10 and weighs 186 pounds. He played for Charlie Baren at St. Clair County High School as a LB and RB.He finished with more than 750 yards rushing, 250 receiving yards, nine touchdowns and registered 105 tackles on defense as a senior. Was selected All-County as a running back and as a linebacker in 2006 He was named the Leeds County Player of the Year helping the Fighting Saints to a 9-3 record as a junior Shaw also lettered in Basketball, where he was named to the All-Tournament team during the County Championships.

Shaw choice to play for Jacksonville State, but sit his 2007 season as a redshirt freshman.

In 2008 he recorded 20 tackles, 10 solo stops, while playing in all 11 games. Had a season-high six tackles, four solos against Tennessee Tech (11/8) and posted four tackles versus Southeast Missouri State (10/4)

Shaw in 2009 moved to wide receiver in the spring after playing in the JSU Secondary in 2008. He saw action in the first 10 games of the season as a sophomore and was third on the team in both receptions (19) and receiving yards (281) for an average of 28.1 yards per game. Shaw averaged 14.8 yards per catch and found the endzone twice.

In 2010, Shaw saw action at wide receiver in all 12 of the Gamecocks’ games as a junior, earning a start in two games Was third on the team with 25 catches for 316 yards and led the squad with six receiving touchdowns, averaging 26.3 yards per game and 12.6 yards per catch. Was JSU’s No. 2 kickoff return man with 11 returns for a team-best average of 26.6 yards, while also returning three punts for an average of 11.3 yards per return.
