Newton is 'curious' to see what twists Shula will bring:
Cam Newton endorses Shula promotion, says offense needs to evolve | ProFootballTalk
"I believe it will be similar, but you always have to evolve," Newton said, via Pat Yasinskas of ESPN.com. "You can’t stay the same. If you do, you’re going to get schemed up. I’m looking forward to (Shula’s) twist on the offense. I’m as curious as everyone else to see what we’re going to be as far as an identity."
I thought that was whole point of the continuity? That we would get more of the same that we saw during the late season winning streak. This sounds more like it's continuity as far as the faces in the room but the offense instead could look quite different.
I'm not sure I'm crazy about that idea. Maybe Cam is just being humble but certainly the identity of the offense will remain centered on Newton. I would also say less read option and more traditional running formations. Shula may be fairly young but he is definitely from the old school. He may be a little more conservative that we are used too the past two seasons under Chud but I also expect Shula to be smart and run an offense that plays to Newton's skills. Probably even more important is to shore up the protection in front of him. We need to figure out the RG spot and build depth in case of injury.
