Is This the Best Panther Defense Ever?

Scott Cunningham

I think I can make a good argument the 2013 Panther defense is.

Just looking at NFL rankings the Panthers finished as follows in 2013:

Yards per Game: 301.2 (2nd)

Points per Game: 15.1 (2nd)

Sacks: 60 (1st)

Interceptions: 20 (5th)

Rushing Yards per Game: 86.2 (2nd)

Passing Yards per Game: 214.3 (6th)

TDs Allowed: 17 (3rd)

That's a very impressive performance from a defense that was ranked in the 20s most of last season. I don;t think we have ever led the NFL in sacks.

By comparison the only other Panther defenses that might be considered better are the following:

2005 - 5th in points and 3rd in yards

2002 - 5th in points and 2nd in yards

1996 - 2nd in points and 10th in yards

I my view this edges all three of those defenses out and is there without a doubt...

the best Panther defense ever!
