Before people jump to conclusions, I am not saying I don't want CJ here. My thinking is that CJ is a top notch DE and they get top dollar according to Peppers' contract.
I was looking at CJ's contract on Spotrac and it appears we will be paying almost the same thing next year if we keep him or if we trade him.

Now looking at his contract, if we were to trade him, the team trading for him would only be responsible for his base salaries, which are 8.750 mil, 9.750 mil, and 10.750 mil. That looks like a cheap deal for a great player to me. We could sign Hardy, we have Alexander and a couple other fill ins, and we could get a good draft pick for Johnson. Not only would we get a draft pick, we would save the sum of his base salary for those 3 years, the guaranteed portion is going to him on our cap no matter what happens, so we would save 29.250 million on our cap space over those 3 years.
Hardy is a couple of years younger than CJ, I think we should try to keep him. After this season, we have no control on him unless we franchise tag him, then it's only a one year deal that could end up like the Peppers situation.
What do you think about this idea? Of course I am talking about after this season is over, and CJ is healthy again, not right now.
