First, you can expect Steve Smith to talk some smack. It's pretty much a guarantee. Feel free to talk some smack back. He doesn't mind that, actually I bet wants and expects it. Just don't...and I mean Do NOT make it personal:
Aqib Talib on Steve Smith: 'Ice up, son' wasn't personal - NFL.com
"Never personal, man. It's never personal," Talib said Wednesday. "I'm sure if I see Steve, it'd be, 'What's up, how you doing?' It's never personal, man. Him and the other guy from St. Louis, that was personal. He didn't say he was going to punch me in my face after the game. He just told me to go get in the tub."
So though Smith may have gotten the best of Talib on this day he doesn't have to worry about Smitty punching him out should he see Smith off the field someday. Janoris Jenkins on the other hand is the poster boy for how to NOT talk smack to Steve Smith. Of course I doubt Smith would ever actually punch Jenkins (it was just hyperbole) he was simply making a point. A point Talib had already learned. So hey, getting in the ice tub is actually good advice for a sore hip. Smitty was just showing concern for Talib's health (tongue in cheek).
I think we have another edition to the 'Rules and Regulations'.
Rules & Regulations item #32: If you are foolish enough to talk smack to #89 then DO NOT make it personal. Otherwise face the wrath of a super-charged and fired up #89 who will enforce rules #1 through 31 on you!
