Dan Connor returns to Panthers

The Star-Ledger-USA TODAY Sports

The Carolina Panthers get some defensive help, and the return of the team's best Tweeter.

The Carolina Panthers have signed linebacker Dan Connor to fill the roster spot vacated by Sione Fua.

It's unclear how quickly Connor will return to the lineup, but there's a possibility he could be back as soon as this weekend provided he's in shape. He was placed on injured reserve in September with a neck stinger, but it's assumed the Panthers wouldn't have brought back Connor unless they felt he could contribute immediately.

Carolina selected Connor with a third round pick in 2008 -- where he played 42 games for the Panthers and recorded 94 tackles. He left via free agency to pursue a starting job, but didn't have luck in either New York or Dallas. It's presumed he'll be depth on the current roster, which is valuable given Chase Blackburn's up-and-down health in recent weeks.

The biggest shame in bringing back Connor is the fact he's left Twitter. If you remember he was far and away the most colorful character on the team. Maybe we can entice him to come back.
