The Carolina Panthers have signed wide receiver Marvin McNutt to the active roster, taking him from the Miami Dolphins practice squad. McNutt will replace Armanti Edwards on the depth chart at wide receiver.
McNutt was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2012 draft after a season at Iowa that saw him catch 82 passes for 1,315 yards and 12 touchdowns. He played on the Eagles' practice squad in 2012 before making a move to Miami in the offseason.
The move continues an undercurrent of size obsession in Carolina, as the 6-2 McNutt has similar size to Brandon LaFell.
McNutt has not played in a regular season game, but had an impressive preseason with Miami. In the team's forth game he caught four passed for 99 yards and a touchdown against the New Orleans Saints.
The hilarious "WTF" element to the signing is that McNutt was a former quarterback with just three years experience playing wide receiver before the draft -- yep, connect those dots. At least he made the jump in college where Edwards made the switch in the NFL.
Carolina also added center Brian Folkerts to the active roster.
