Panthers RB Williams Quad Injury Deemed Minor

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

The Panthers exited the Bucs game with injuries to two key players.

Friday we learned DE Charles Johnson, who was carried off the field late in the victory over the Bucs, does not have a serious injury.

The injury, which thankfully wasn't a tear, shouldn't keep Johnson out for long. After playing on Thursday night, he'll have a long time to rest before the Panthers' matchup against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9. There is no guarantee Johnson will return that soon, but the likelihood is better after Friday's news.

We didn't realize it at the time but RB DeAngelo Williams was also dinged up after the Bucs game.

Panthers coach Ron Rivera expects DeAngelo Williams (quad) to play in Week 9 against the Falcons. Williams exited Thursday night's win over the Bucs with a quad injury, though he managed to stay in the game. It's a day to day situation for now, but Williams could miss practice time next week. "As long as there’s not a lot of swelling, he’ll be ready," Rivera said. "And knowing DeAngelo, he’ll want to play."

The Falcons are always a key match-up so if these two can go I expect them to go. The good news is that neither injury is serious so both should have time ot heal with the long lay off after playing Thursday Night.
