There's a new name to add to the Carolina Panthers list of potential general managers, and it's one previously unmentioned -- Lake Dawson of the Tennessee Titans.
While the Carolina Panthers have stopped short of sending a formal interview requests, Joseph Person writes that the organization is interested in Dawson, according to sources. While he's a name that may not move the needle among fans, I'm told that Dawson is highly respected among NFL circles, and a potential general manager some believe should have been given a job already.
A former player, Lake Dawson was a 3rd round pick in 1994 out of Notre Dame. Following three-year stint in Kansas City, he returned to the NFL in 2001 -- as a pro personnel assistant for the Seattle Seahawks. Working in Seattle until 2006, he's another executive who comes from a professional scouting background, rather than a college one. This role is responsible for evaluating established talent, and determining when it's time to part ways with a player -- something most agree Marty Hurney struggled with.
Lake Dawson has been with the Tennesee Titans organization since 2007, and currently oversees both pro and college scouting as Vice President of Player Personnel -- a role he assumed early in 2012.
