US PRESSWIRE
The Panthers once again turn to a familiar, in-house face to fill an open coaching slot. This time its current Panther scout Ken Dorsey.
From Joe Person with the Charlotte Observer though we are still waiting on confirmation.
Coach Ron Rivera is expected to hire Ken Dorsey, one of the team’s pro scouts, as his quarterbacks coach, a source with knowledge of the situation said Tuesday. Dorsey, 31, joined the scouting department two years ago after working with former Panthers quarterback Chris Weinke at IMG Academy, where they trained Cam Newton during the lockout before Newton’s rookie season.
If you are of the 'let's keep the continuity for Cam's sake' group then you probably like this move. If you instead want someone with a proven track record well then this move probably comes up short for you. This is actually Dorsey's very first coaching gig, at any level, in any position. Dorsey is only two years removed from playing with the Toronto Argonauts.
I would imagine Newton was consulted on this move before it was made, if it has already been made as suggested. It was widely reported that Newton endorsed the promotion of Mike Shula to OC but we are not sure if that endorsement came before or after the Shula selection. I would imagine before which is probably was occurred when filling Shula's position.
So what do you think?
