Just taking a preliminary look around the league and team's draft needs, two teams that catch my eye for potential trading partners are the Dallas Cowboys, and the New England Patriots.
Dallas Cowboys
In regards to the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones has shown a propensity in the past couple of years that he will trade for players that he wants. In the 2010 draft, he traded up for Dez Bryant and Sean Lee. In last year's draft, he grabbed Mo Clairborne with the 7th overall pick with a trade for the Rams.
This past off-season, they have switched over to a Tampa 2, 4-3 scheme with the hiring of Monte Kiffin. Some of their immediate needs that come to mind are offensive line, defensive tackles, safeties, and you can even throw in QB if they don't believe Romo is the guy. They might even have a need for defensive ends if they choose not to resign Anthony Spencer.
Potential players that might not be around when the Cowboys pick include G Chance Warmack, DT Sheldon Richardson, S Kenny Vaccaro, QB Geno Smith, and others.
New England Patriots
Typically, in the past, the New England Patriots will trade back to gain as many picks as possible. Last year was much different as they traded up twice in the first round to get Donta Hightower and Chandler Jones. If anybody watched the AFC Championship game, the Patriots still lack a consistent pass rush and a deep threat WR as the Ravens were able to punish the Patriots with their dink and dunk attack.
The #1 deep threat receiver in this draft is WR Cordarelle Patterson, who I believe will be drafted somewhere around the middle of the first round. Other receivers that fit in the Patriots mold are Keenan Allen and Hopkins who run excellent routes, but may lack the deep speed of Patterson. Allen and Hopkins also have a good chance of going in the middle of the first round.
With regards to defensive ends, this is an excellent class. If some of the guys such Werner, Damontre Moore, Mingo Barkevious start dropping on draft day, I can see the Patriots wanting to trade up for one of these guys.
Here is my thoughts on two potential trading partners. With our limited cap space, I would like to see Gettleman trade back and attempt to get as many picks as possible to try to fill some of our holes on the team.
